Teachings of Jesus.  You will find that Christian Science is a scientific system of spiritual healing based on the teachings of Christ Jesus.  Since the time of Jesus, Christians have turned to prayer for healing, not only of physical ailments, but of every kind of trouble.  For several hundred years after Jesus' resurrection and ascension, his followers healed as Jesus did by relying on God alone to sustain their life, health and well-being.  However, for various reasons, the practical elements of spiritual healing based on the laws of God became lost for nearly two thousand years.
Bible verses, Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker EddySpiritual Healing.  While millions of people around the world continued to find solace and hope in the Bible, it wasn't until 1866 that a woman in New England, Mary Baker Eddy, discovered what she called the "lost element of healing" in the teachings of Jesus.  She explained her discovery in her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which has brought healing to people of all faiths for over 100 years. She later established The Church of Christ, Scientist, which is designed in the words of its founder "to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing."  (Church Manual, p. 17)
