How can we pray to overcome the fear induced by terrorism?
Fear instilled by acts of terror is disturbing many people these days. How can we pray to keep from being afraid, and thus help deprive such tactics of their aim to dominate through fear? The Bible tells us: “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear” (I John 4:18, NRSV). To love our enemies, as Christ Jesus calls on us to do, (see Matthew 5:44) and to understand how love can cast out fear – and how that can be practical – may seem a daunting, if not impossible, task. But it comes into the realm of possibility when we realize that God loves all His children, who, in truth, are made spiritual and good (see Genesis 1:26, 27) – and that God’s love is all-powerful.
