Christian Science healing is Bible-based

Christian Scientists often base their prayers on the Lord's Prayer given to us by Christ Jesus and inspirational readings from the King James Version of The Bible and other translations.

The Lord's Prayer given to us by Christ Jesus meets all human needs.

Silent prayer and the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation given in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy are part of church services. Otherwise, there are few prayer rituals In Christian Science.  We turn to God for fresh inspiration to meet every need.

What's the key to effective prayer?

Mary Baker Eddy's chapter on Prayer is a very thought-provoking analysis of prayer and how it benefits us and those around us. She talks about the motives for prayer and how we can pray effectively, using Christ Jesus as a prime example.

In introducing the Lord's Prayer given to us by Jesus Christ, the Bible says, "When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, for ever.
Amen."  (Matt. 6:6-13)

Mary Baker Eddy gives us a spiritual sense of the Lord's Prayer on page 16 of Science and Health. Here is a video of the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual interpretation, created by TMC Youth (Youth group from the Christian Science Mother Church).

"In order to pray aright, we must enter into the closet and shut the door. We must close the lips and silence the material senses. In the quiet sanctuary of earnest longings, we must deny sin and plead God's allness. We must resolve to take up the cross, and go forth with honest hearts to work and watch for wisdom, Truth, and Love. We must 'pray without ceasing.' Such prayer is answered, in so far as we put our desires into practice. The Master's injunction is, that we pray in secret and let our lives attest our sincerity." (Science & Health 15:14)

"Desire is prayer."  Mary Baker Eddy

The first chapter of Science and Health is entitled Prayer. The first line states, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God, — a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love."

Understanding God is the key to healing prayer, because if we understand Him we will understand our spiritual nature as His reflection. God is good, and as children of God we all reflect good. This is one of the foundational teachings of Christian Science.
